Ever since the last quarter of 2011 up to this day, work has been really great! I am so thankful that this job of mine helps me and my family in so many ways. I was really busy lately with some written work and online meetings. Our audio conferencing services at the office really rocks, communication has never been a problem of ours. We easily get in touch with each other whenever we have concerns through audio conferencing. I just love the power of technology and how it makes things easier at work.

The prospect of searching for a reputable attorney is a little overwhelming. There are hundreds of attorneys and law firms listed in the phone book, and an Internet search for them will bring up millions of results. The ratio of disreputable law firms to reputable law firms is pretty balanced. That means that almost half of the firms available to you might not be the best for you.

Image via Wikipedia

Fortunately, there are ways to thin out the herd a bit and find a good, reputable law firm. Here are some tips on how to do that.

Be aware of false advertising. Some law firms advertise “no win, no fee” policies or promise to get you 100% compensation in a case. The claims are certainly attractive and sound good on TV, but they aren’t always true. You can get billed under a “no win, no fee” case without actually winning. And as for getting 100% compensation, you may get 100%, but then the lawyer bills you after the fact. Just be wary of advertising that makes such claims. Not all law firms who make them are reputable.

Use a search engine. Yes, this will give you perhaps millions of results, only a comparative few of which will be relevant. Narrow down your search by adding your state and city to your search terms. There are also legal sites that will put you in touch with local firms. For example, total divorce lawyers can put you in touch with divorce attorneys in your area.

Do your research. Look up reviews of your local law firms online. You should be able to find honest client reviews and testimonials on how they were treated and on how their cases turned out.

Explore the law firm’s website. Read their terms and conditions and compensation policies. Look for a reviews section if they have one. Learn everything you need to know before even contacting the firm. See if they offer free advice, evaluations and quotes online. This can help you choose which firm you want to represent you.

Be specific. Some law firms specialize in specific legal fields. So, depending on your need, look for someone who may specialize in your specific type of case.

Talk to the law firm first before committing with them. Get to know them a bit. Ask a lot of questions. Get their rates. Shop around at a few law firms, and talk to them all to decide who you want to work with.

Hiring a disreputable law firm can hurt you in a number of ways. They may grossly overcharge you for their services and then even lose the case. Use caution when seeking a reputable law firm online. There are bad firms and scammers out there waiting for you so be careful.

As if you don’t have enough to worry about as a soon-to-be new parent, you’ve got to upgrade your housing. That one-bedroom apartment isn’t going to cut it now that you’re expecting a new addition. Searching for a new place on top of clothes-hunting, crib-buying, and diaper-stocking may seem overwhelming, but remember that your family is about to grow in a big way. You need a place that can grow with you. Here are four simple pieces of advice for choosing the best places to live for new parents.

Research the market first.
You need to have a good idea of the market before you can decide if something is a bargain, a steal, or outrageously overpriced. Markets differ by area and neighborhood: Fort Myers apartments are going to be vastly different than apartments in Orlando, for example. Spend a few days browsing through listings before you act. You’ll start to get a good feel for prices and you’ll have a good idea of which landlords are trying to rip you off.

You get what you pay for: beware of too-cheap apartments.
Remember, if a price is vastly lower than similar properties in the same area, ask yourself why the price is so cheap. Those too-low price tags usually indicate not-so-stellar features like property damage, rowdy neighborhoods, or undesirable locations (a train running by every morning at 3 a.m., for example).

Check out the school system.
School? You cry. I’ve still got five years to go before I need to think about that!

A school system is something you inherit along with the property. You need to make sure you’re okay with what you’re investing before you move in: it’s a lot easier to move once than twice.

Good school systems come with plenty of other benefits, too. You’ll have plenty of fellow parents to bond with (and neighborhood children for your child to play with). Good school systems also indicate that the residents care about their children’s future, so crime rates tend to be lower and community cleanliness and amenities tend to be higher.

Choose a quiet neighborhood. Both new parents and babies need all the sleep they can get. Save both of you some grief and choose a quiet, sleep-friendly neighborhood.

A watch has always been a great gift idea for life partners and special loved ones. I already gave my husband a watch a few years ago and I feel so happy that everytime he would look at the time, he was always reminded of me. Watches nowadays can really be expensive because of the materials used. I even heard about titanium watch bracelet which is one of the top watch bracelets now. We all know how good and sturdy titanium is. If I can save a few from my budget this 1st quarter of 2012, I might get my husband a new watch that he can wear at work.

As parents, it’s our job to teach our children how to navigate the world. We want them to be successful, we want them to be happy, and, perhaps most importantly, we want them to be safe. This is why we teach them to be critical of what seems like generosity with the old adage, “if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is,” and we are right to do so. There are plenty of scams and schemers out there, who have been particularly accessible since the advent of the Internet. However, we would be doing our children a disservice if we did not also teach them to spot a good deal when it is present. Below are three things to keep in mind, whether for your children or yourself, when trying to decide whether something is too good to be true or not.

Image via Wikipedia

1) Do your homework – While it’s true that the internet is full of scams, it is equally true that it is full of opportunity, and the best test of which is which is the experience of others. There are websites devoted to exposing scams and extolling the virtues of real opportunities. The most trustworthy of these are generally the ones that deal with a specific market. For example, in online casinos, there are lists of what are called “rogue casinos” that have been known to cheat players. Consulting lists such as these will allow you to steer clear of many dangerous situations.

Image via Wikipedia

2) Read the fine print – One way to distinguish a true opportunity from a scam, is that true opportunities usually have a “catch” or a requirement that you must fulfill that keeps it from being “too good to be true.” Sticking with the casino example, if an online casino offers you a welcome bonus of real money with absolutely no strings attached, then it is likely a scam. However, online casinos do often offer a no deposit bonus to new players, which have some strings attached – like being “non-cashable” or requiring you to play for high stakes with the bonus.

3) Take the plunge – after checking to make sure there are no forums that say it’s a scam and reading to see what the catch is, if the requirements are acceptable and you still think it’s a good opportunity, seize it!

Part of being a good parent is teaching our children that they need to accept good fortune when it is offered to them.

Image via Wikipedia

Prior to starting a family, couples are inundated with worries about the cost of having children, raising and feeding them, and of course, caring for and educating them. Moreover, these couples also deal with the realities of current economic problems, and it might seem that having children is a lifestyle change just too expensive to indulge in.

Ready to Have a Family

Some couples decide to wait until they are making enough money before having any children mainly for financial reasons. They also put off any plans of raising a family until they get a house large enough to handle one. They believe that without a cash loan, owning a house and raising a family would be impossible. And the list of reasons to put off having children never ends: when are you actually making enough money? It eventually comes down to the point wherein the couple simply decides that they really want a family and are ready to forego many of the extras they have grown used to.

Before starting family many couples travel and splurge on adventures — things that you can’t do once you have kids. Even though their finances are in order as they keep to a budget, there is still that nagging fear that if children entered the picture, they would prove too expensive. But as most couple find after they finally have their first child, it isn’t the cost of children but rather the lifestyle prior to children that was truly expensive. They even discover that they could have afforded to have children sooner if they had taken into account how much they could have saved by traveling less and purchasing less expensive high-end “necessities.”

Increased Expenses

Image by Tony Tr?n via Flickr

The real increase in expenses ends up being for items like diapers, clothes, additional food, cribs, and ointments – all things that can be afforded once the prior lifestyle expenses are redirected toward the family. Even savings accounts for children can often be squeezed into this expensive new lifestyle change without proving to be overwhelming.

In reality, the greatest expense couples discover is the cost of daycare. Starting a family only to have someone else raise the children contradicts the original purpose of having children in the first place. Usually, the amount of money earned by one spouse is barely enough to cover daycare.

Adjusting Lifestyle

Most couples find that the expense of children compared to the joy, happiness and fun they bring to their lives is relatively small. Though it is a responsible move to fully consider the cost before having children most young couples use this as an excuse as opposed to an actual impediment to starting a family. This becomes most evident when they truly value the luxuries they enjoy – nice cars, clothes, vacations – instead of raising their own family. While it is true that raising a family would cost a lot especially for new couples, it is the lifestyle you choose that’s really costing you. For most people, having their own family is truly worth it.

Last Dec 30 – Jan 1, 2012 , my family stayed at the Edsa ShangriLa Hotel to celebrate and welcome the New Year. It was our first time to be away from home due to some safety reasons. It was indeed a new experience for us, the hotel lobby was transformed into one party place with the theme ” Saturday Night Fever”.

We had a few hots at different areas of the hotel then we just stayed in our room to watch some fireworks at our glass window.

From our family to yours, Happy New Year!

Education is one of the basic needs of every individual. Even at a young age, giving them the best quality of education is part of their human rights. That is the reason why most people who were able to graduate are very fortunate enough because their chances to have a job is very big since they have the edge that they were able to finish their degree, which only means that they are trained enough to be part of an organization.

Since our generation today is a bit more advanced than before, there are various technological developments available to promote the value of education. One of these is the learning management system, which is a web-based application designed to improve the effectiveness of any business or company no matter what there fields are and it also focuses in giving education especially to those people who cannot go to school because of possible time or schedule conflicts or perhaps they are physically impaired that it will be a hassle for them to travel to school almost every day.

Of course, in order for these lms systems to work, the most commonly known technology, which is the Internet, will be the main tool to make everything work for both students and instructors. Yes, this will be in cyber vicinity as what you can think of right now. This may look hard to some because students and instructors will just have to depend on their Internet to work on their activities but somehow, this is never a problem with the people who are already enrolled in this kind of program. Why? It is simply because they are also given available materials such as online chat, video call, e-mail service and forums to help them in the development of their entire progress.

Though this application is good for online purposes only, people need not to worry because everything will be tracked and reported based on the activities performed by any individual enrolled on the system. Students have the opportunity to interact with other people for them to share ideas and voice out their opinions that will help in their performance. LMS also offers programs where students can participate, so as to make them feel that they are also in an environment that is closely similar to a normal school. This will also help them to be comfortable enough to study and have the best online teaching experience.

Likewise, since everything will be tracked, every individual’s performance and progress will be based on the course they took, completed certifications, evaluations, examinations and attendance, which is why they should study hard and exert more effort just like what normal students do.

Somehow, we can say that this is like the social networking sites that are continuously evolving because it helps develop a strong connection with other students while studying. It helps develop their capabilities with the programs offered to each of them and we can definitely say that it helps enhance the skills and talents of every individual.

Surely, our generation today is more advance than before since various technological developments are continuously innovating. This is the main reason why many people are looking forward for more instant and faster solutions because that’s what technology brings to us.

As what we can see, technology plays a very big role and leaves a strong impact to most people nowadays. Nevertheless, we should also be prudent enough and always make sure that we know each of its purpose and never try to hesitate to use them on bad purposes because after all, these technologies are created to help us and not to destroy use.

It’s too late to think about financing your son or daughter’s education when the senior year of high school rolls around. Even by freshman year, you’re really coming to the game too late. Ideally, you should start growing a college fund for your child on the way home from the hospital. Consider these tips for increasing the money you put toward your child’s future.

Take Advantage of a 529 Plan

Most states offer some version of a 529 plan that allows you to put money into a special college savings account. You can choose how you want your money invested, whether you want low, moderate or high risk. In many cases, the money earned through a 529 account is not subject to federal and state taxes. To qualify for the tax shelter, money from the account has to go toward college-related expenses such as tuition, room, board, and fees.

Ask for the Gift that Gives Back

If a relative or friend asks for gift suggestions for your child, encourage contributions to the 529 plan and savings bonds. Your child may not appreciate the sentiment at a young age, but that will change when your child enters high school.

Consider a Prepaid Tuition Program

Some states and universities allow parents to prepay tuition, essentially locking in the current tuition rate. With many states making drastic cuts to higher education funding and universities jacking up tuition in response, this option may save you a bundle in the future. The only drawback is that you are essentially limiting the school choices your child will have. However, in many cases, students can choose between several different schools in a particular state.

Set Aside Money Each Month for Your Child’s College Education

Before you try to save, get your finances in order. If necessary, take out installment loans from Great Plains Lending to pay off medical bills and credit cards. Then, designate a certain amount of money to get automatically routed to your child’s savings account each month. This consistent effort to save will pay off in 18 years.

Pay Attention to Your Child’s Dreams

As your son or daughter gets into high school, consider what career paths he or she prefers. If law school or medical school could be in the future, you may want to increase your contribution to the 529 account or the child’s savings account.

It can be difficult to work toward long-term financial goals, especially if the payoff is literally years down the road. However, if you start when your child is very young and save incrementally, you will create a significant pot of money to help get your child off to a great start as an adult. What’s been your biggest challenge in setting aside money for your son or daughter’s college fund?
